Last Michigan Visitors.Last Michigan Memories

My friend Berta and her family came to visit the triplets a few weeks ago. I have known my friend since ninth grade. For those who don't know me, that has been a very long time now. Bert, for lack of a better cliche, is home to me; so much so, that I really didn't feel like I gave birth to my babies until Berta held them in her arms. It is a true gift to have a person like that in your life; someone who knows who you were and who you have become and hides all YOUR skeletons in HER closet. That being said, it was her last visit to Michigan to visit my family in our home. Now I know for sure that we are ready to move on to the next leg of our adventure.

Now I have looked at our life as a series of lasts. Eva had her last  ballet recital this month. She did a ballet number and a hip hop number. Props to her Cuban side, the girl can shake it when she needs to. It amazed me to see that this year with her makeup in place for the show, I could begin to see the woman that she will become and prayed that it would not come too soon because she is just a yummie baby to me.

Eva was given a peacmaker award at the last day of school. I was so proud of her but my son Golden stole the show when I saw him in the corner of my eye getting all upset when she retrieved it. When I talked to him afterwards he said, " The principal said the award was for people who showed they were sweet and helped others and never wanted attention...well that is me!" Sweet competative Golden (who got first place in the space derby. Lucky for all of us.)

My little bambinos photo shoot.

It's been a month and my bambinos couldn't get cuter. I am typing now with Gisele cooing in her crib as she looks around curiously, Beau is in my arms, nestled in close to me sleeping soundly, and Carlos is asleep making all sorts of manly noises that only babies can get away with in public. Big sister Eva is staring over the crib at her brother and sisters, hoping to snatch one up the second they stir. And brother Golden is nearby serving as the man of the house this morning while daddy is at work. Could this be a perfect moment to remember.....of course.

Pleasant Chaos with 2 week old triplets

The babies in their cute outfits leaving hospital together after three days.
Thanks to Tia Berta for the cute "Cuban Canastilla"

Above: Gisele was posing like an old pro while I dressed her siblings. As always, she is observing all around her while the others sleep.

Above: Beau always has a smile ready for action.

Carlos and Gigi enjoy an afternoon snooze together

Big Sister and Brother love to hold the new additions too. But it seems they have to share with the rest of us.

The babies are such a happy addition to our family. Everyone is nursing like a trooper and gaining weight like troopers. As you can imagine, caring for them takes some time so I apologize ahead of time to all our friends and family for not getting back to you in time or sending pictures as often as we should. We love you all and will get around to life outside these walls real soon. Just know, we have no words to express the joy and gratitude we have at this time to have brought home three healthy new triplets to this world.

34 weeks pregnant with triplets

This is my last picture before delivering. In 8 days from now, we have lift off. Or push out. I can't believe we will make it to what is considered triplet "term" of 35 weeks. We have been blessed. No blips in the babies growth, no preterm labor. No bed rest (the biggest blessing of all that allowed me to work until last weekend) and no maternal hypertention or diabetes. If only raising them can go this smoothly but I feel I may be pushing my luck. Tonight, Mike and I had what could be one of our last dates before the trips come. We ate at the Chop House and than strolled the aisles of Target preparing our Easter baskets. Ahhh, how romantic can we get? Next post about the triplets should have some photographs of actual little feet and little hands if we are lucky.

Measurements at 33 1/2 weeks:
Baby A  5 lb
Baby B  5 lb 1 oz
Baby C  5 lb 8 oz

Golden's Award Winning Month

Our sweet son has many good qualities, but losing gracefully is not one of them.....neither is winning as I soon found out at the multi school science olympiad. Golden managed to win a fifth place ribbon, and a first place ribbon for individual catagories. He also won a second place all around medal. Mind you, this was a contest between nine different schools in the area. Pretty darn great!
But Golden noted that there were actual trophies on the table and was completely upset he did not get one. When I explained to him that these trophies were only for the schools and not for the students...He looked at me as if I was obviously missing the big picture. Nonetheless, I chose to photograph my son's big moment. This snapshot missed the pouting and tears that come along with the win. By the way, his school won first place for best sportsmanship. And when his teacher was handed the trophy (not a stinking ribbon) Golden let out a huge sigh and put his head in his hands. It was priceless.

Later that month, Golden participated in the pinewood derby. I have never prayed harder for my son to make it to the top three. Not because I needed him to win, but I needed him to get a dang trophy.  His car was fast. The Rogue Shadow. To our great happiness, Golden came in third out of 20 boys. When Golden got his trophy he came over and yes, he was completely upset. So I took his picture as any good mom would do.
Not even his ribbon for " smoothest shaped car" helped remove that smirk. Mike insists this is a Harris trait and that Golden will grow out of it. But I can't help but chuckle. In the car, on the way home, Golden asked me, "Mom, what is so great about and why do people make such a big deal about being third?"  And why didn't I win the award for best sportsmanship?"

I love this boy. And if it's any consolation. He's always number one in my book. I might even get him a trophy to prove it.

Triplets 31 weeks

I just can't believe how lucky I have been so far in this pregnancy. Still working part-time, no real bed rest. If it wasn't for the excess weight and need to sleep in a recliner to breath, I would say we are pretty lucky. This weeks ultrasound shows the babies are growing very well. They are in the 56th percentile for a single birth. Doc says that is very good.
Baby A 3lb 13 ounces
Baby B 3lb 13 ounces
Baby C 4 lb
As for the future, we have 4 weeks until chaos ensues. And I couldn't be happier that we have three healthy rugrats to give it to us.
